Fairfield University's Bensonians to join Six13 at event celebrating Daniel Pearl Music Days

Image: Bensonians The Bensonians, a Fairfield University student singing group, will open for Six13, a popular Jewish a cappella group, on Wednesday, October 26, at 8 p.m., at the University's Quick Center for the Arts. The event, free and open to the public, is part of Daniel Pearl Music Day, an international network of concerts using the power of music to reaffirm a commitment to greater inclusiveness and humanity.

Established in 1947 and reorganized in 2010, the Bensonians are Fairfield University's all-male a cappella group. The group is a student-run ensemble within the University's Glee Club. The Bensonians perform multiple concerts on campus and off campus each year, including the Glee Club's annual concerts. The group sings a widely varying repertoire, from sacred to pop and doo-wop and anything in between, say members.

"The Bensonians will open the concert with three songs," said Ellen Umansky, Ph.D., director of the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, which is sponsoring the event. "It will be a great opportunity to see two talented a cappella groups in performance."

Fueled by a strong, Jewish identity and anchored by a thumping beatbox, intricate arrangements, and soulful harmonies, Six13 is a six-man vocal band that brings an unprecedented style of Jewish music to the stage. With songs ranging from hip-hop dance tracks to rock anthems, the members of the New York-based group sound like a full band.

No tickets are needed but reservations are requested. Call the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, at (203) 254-4000, ext. 2066. This is an Arts & Minds event.
