More than 60 percent of Stags student-athletes named to 3.0 Club


Image: Fairfield Stags Fairfield University's student-athletes excelled in the classroom once again with 61 percent achieving at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) during the Spring 2011 semester. In all, 233 student-athletes earned spots in the Athletic Department's 3.0 Club while 116 of those student-athletes were named to the University's Dean's List .

For the second straight semester, women's swimming & diving led the women's programs with the most selections to the 3.0 Club, with 24 of their 26 competitors reaching the mark. Of those 24 student-athletes, 16 were named to the University Dean's List. Women's lacrosse had 23 student-athletes achieve a 3.0 GPA with 10 of their members being named to the Dean's List.

Men's lacrosse had 20 student-athletes posting a 3.0 GPA or higher to lead the men's programs. Men's soccer had 17 student-athletes while swimming & diving had 14 and baseball had 13. Men's cross country had 11 of its 14 members in the 3.0 Club.

Other notables include women's rowing with 16 student-athletes reaching 3.0 status, including nine Dean's List selections. Women's cross country had 12 of its 17 student-athletes hit 3.0 status and eight of those were named to the University's Dean's List. Field hockey also had 12 in the 3.0 Club while volleyball and women's soccer each had seven.
