Shawn Colvin and Loudon Wainwright III to play the Quick Center for the Arts on March 12

Grammy® Award winner Shawn Colvin joins the prolific Loudon Wainwright III in a concert at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts on Saturday, March 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45, $40. The concert is co-sponsored by WFUV 90.7 and is an Arts & Minds presentation.

In an era where solo singer/songwriters are ever more ubiquitous, Colvin and Wainwright III stand out as enduring talents. Colvin has won three Grammy® Awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule and had her songs featured in major motion pictures. Wainwright's performances take audiences on a roller coaster of emotions from deeply moving introspective songs to knee slapping hilarity.

Colvin Regardless of prevailing trends or commercial pressures, Wainwright III has always continued to follow his beautiful, often heartbreaking muse, no matter what the consequences. This is why his music endures, 23 albums and 40 odd years later, and why Wainwright III remains a true American treasure to this day. "I'm lucky - it still feels like there's work to do, and I'm doing it," says the 64-year-old singer-songwriter. "I hate the travel, the airports, the hotels, but I love the job itself, which is writing the songs and doing the shows. As a kid I had a dream of being a performer, and lo and behold it came true."

Colvin's songs are slow-release works of craft and catharsis that become treasured, lifetime companions for their listeners. As a storyteller, Colvin is both keen and warm-hearted, leavening even the toughest tales with tenderness, empathy and a searing sense of humor. Colvin's 2009 Live album was nominated for a Grammy® Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album and the Detroit Free Press called it "An intimate, career-spanning solo recording...."
