Isra-Alien, a high-energy acoustic guitar duo that merges Mediterranean-gypsy music with jazz mentality and rock attitude, will play a concert in the Wien Experimental Theatre at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts on Sunday, February 13 at 2 p.m. There is limited ticket availability. Tickets are $15. The concert will be followed by a lobby reception celebrating the Quick Center for the Arts' 20th anniversary and the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery's exhibition of Judaic works by artist Norman Gorbaty, To Honor My People. The event is an Arts & Minds presentation.

The music of the two guitarists that comprise Isra-Alien, Gilad Ben-Zvi and Oren Neiman, is deeply rooted in Israel's diverse musical traditions. After years of musical collaborations, the musicians created the band as a vehicle for their innovative compositions and imaginative arrangements. The result is a unique fusing of a myriad of musical traditions - Greek, Balkan, Eastern-European and Jewish/Klezmer - with daring improvisations and inventive textures, showcasing both guitarists' musical worlds.

The band has fused their talents yet maintained each player's distinctive musical identity as they combine steel string acoustic guitar and nylon string acoustic guitar. They have created a collection of new compositions that challenged both players technically and conceptually.

Isra-Alien recorded their debut eponymous album in 2009 and the duo has toured in the New York area and Israel since, building a following along the way. Their album was chosen by Music Connection Magazine as one of the top 25 independent albums of 2009 and was described thus, "...the players weave their skills wonderfully, showing expert balance and dynamics ... (they) have played together for years and it shows in every note, verse and exchange..."
