In recognition of the contributions graduate students make to their communities, Fairfield University and the Graduate Student Assembly announced that five outstanding students have been selected to receive Graduate Student Service Awards. This year marks the first time the university is giving out this type of service award to graduate students.

The university will honor the recipients at a dinner on Friday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Dining Room of the Dolan School of Business.

The Graduate Student Service Award is given to students who have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to a service program in their local community.

"The award is a culmination of our first year activities for our graduate student population here at Fairfield University," said James Fitzpatrick, assistant vice president for administration and student affairs. Fitzpatrick said for over 60 years, Fairfield graduate students have been performing wonderful and remarkable service to their local communities, and it was a natural choice for the Graduate Student Assembly to recognize these efforts. Fitzpatrick will welcome the students at the ceremony.

The award winners are Susan Serven, New Canaan; Edward Gratrix, Monroe; Lacy Birdseye, New Canaan; Stephanie Santos, Milford; and Tess Brown, Trumbull. Each student will receive an engraved plaque from the Graduate Student Assembly.

"The Graduate Student Service Awards are very exciting because it is the first time that all graduate students will come together to network, share, and celebrate," said Tess Brown, one of the award recipients.

The recognition ceremony is part of the University's strategic vision to acknowledge the unique research and the exceptional ways Fairfield graduate students serve their local communities and the society at large.
