Cinefest Fairfield on May 7 showcases student films

Cinefest

Fairfield's ever-popular student film festival, Cinefest, will host its seventh annual showcase on Saturday, May 7, at 6 p.m. The festival will be held at the University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts . Admission is free.

A red-carpet pre-show at 5:30 p.m. will include interviews with the student filmmakers and faculty members.

Cinefest 2011 is presented by the University's New Media Film, Television and Radio program, and this year has an 'Old Time Movie' theme. "We'll be showing fourteen films, ranging from drama to comedy to music videos," said Bridget Lake, digital media and TV producer. "Some of the films are senior capstone projects, and each director gives a brief interview after the showing." All films are judged by media and other university faculty, and awards given to those deemed the most outstanding in their category.

Year after year, Cinefest draws an enthusiastic and engaged crowd of students and theatre-lovers who pack the house and respond enthusiastically to what they see on screen. "Students are very excited this year," said Lake, who again expects a full house.
