Stecher and Horowitz Foundation and Fairfield University presents the Young Artists Series' pianist Allen Yueh October 24 at Egan Chapel

Yueh has won many prizes since his 2004 debut solo recital at the Shandelee Music Festival at the age of twelve. At the time, the Times Herald Record wrote, "Every once in a while, there emerges a young performer who shows the promise of uniqueness. Such is Allen Yueh ... Remember his name."

Yueh has performed at numerous concert halls, including The Eisenhower Theater at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York and St. Nicolò Auditorium in Chioggia, Italy. He won the Gold Prize for his participation in youngARTS Week 2009, created by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and was subsequently distinguished as one of 20 Presidential Scholars of the Arts in the entire nation.

Yueh will perform Beethoven's "Rondo in Co Major, Op. 51, No.1," Franz Schubert's "Wanderer Fantasy in C Major, Op. 15, (D. 760), Robert Schumann's "Arabesque, Op. 18" and "Variations on the name 'Abegg,' Op. 1" and Chopin's "Four Etudes" and "Sonata No. 2 in B flat Minor, Op. 35."

The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation is committed to furthering the education, recognition and fostering of talented young pianists ages 16 to 21 years old. It seeks emerging talent through its flagship program, The New York International Piano Competition, which is the subject of three documentaries, the second of which is currently being viewed on PBS throughout the United States. Yueh will be featured in the third documentary, "On a Personal Note," a behind-the-scenes look at the competition, which will be aired on PBS later in this season.

Yueh, a student at Harvard University, has performed in master classes of renowned pianists including, Joseph Kalichstein, Earl Wild, Andre-Michel Schub and Olga Kern. Since 1996, he has been under the guidance of Yelena Ivanov, former professor at the Gnesinsky Academy of Music in Moscow, Russia.

The National Endowment for the Arts supports the Young Artists Series with additional support by Steinway & Sons and JetBlue Airways.

Special note: From Oct. 4, 2010 through June 30, 2012, the southern end of North Benson Road (Rt. 135) will be closed to traffic on nights and weekends.
