New Orleans Nights with Allen Toussaint, Nicholas Payton and Joe Krown Trio play the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University November 12 | Press Releases

Allen Toussaint is a seminal influence on the music of New Orleans and he joins with Nicholas Payton and the Joe Krown Trio to perform "New Orleans Nights" at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts on Friday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 and $35 and are available at the Quick Center Box Office at (203) 254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396. Image: A Toussaint Toussaint was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and he was the recipient of the 2009 prestigious Grammy® Trustees Award. His name is synonymous with New Orleans music and the Hall of Fame describes him as a producer, bandleader, arranger, songwriter, session musician and all-around musical eminence. His songs are timeless hits, including "Working in the Coal Mine," "Mother-in-Law," "I Like It Like That," "Right Place Wrong Time" and "Southern Nights." The list of artists whom Toussaint has produced, recorded, performed with, composed for, or has covers by is as impressive as it is universal - Elvis Costello, Dr. John, the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon and Robert Palmer, to name but a few. His latest releases - "The River in Reverse," 2006 with Elvis Costello (which rose to #2 on the Billboard Top Jazz Album chart), and "The Bright Mississippi" in 2009 - bring Toussaint's music to a new generation.

Image: N Payton Called "abundantly gifted" and "a high-wire soloist" by The New York Times, Nicholas Payton is a composer, a bandleader and an extraordinarily talented trumpet wizard. Payton began playing trumpet at the age of four, turned professional at twelve and recorded his first album at nineteen - a true young lion of jazz. His recordings have consistently charted in the Billboard Top 20 Jazz albums, from his first recording, "From This Moment" (#15) to his current release "Into the Blue" (#11).

In 1997, 24-year-old Payton received a Grammy® Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo for his collaboration with Doc Cheatham, then 92. Payton has also performed and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, Hank Jones, Elvin Jones, Ray Brown, Roy Hargrove and Joe Henderson.

Image: Joe Krown Trio The Joe Krown Trio with Joe on piano and Hammond B-3 organ, Walter Wolfman Washington on guitar and vocals and drummer Russell Batiste, started playing together in March 2007 at a local New Orleans nightclub, the Maple Leaf Bar. The combination of the soulful vocals of Walter with the big sound of the Hammond B-3 and the masterful drumming of Russell Batiste Jr. has developed a loyal following of New Orleans Jazz aficionados. The trio's 2008 CD, "Live at the Maple Leaf," has garnered rave reviews: "A killer collaboration between three of New Orleans greatest players!" Jan Ramsey, OffBEAT Magazine.
