Don Pasquale

The Met: Live in HD presents the live transmission of Donizetti's bel canto comedy "Don Pasquale" starring Anna Netrebko opposite Matthew Polenzani, Mariusz Kwiecien and John Del Carlo at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts on Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m. The Quick Center will screen an encore of the opera at 6 p.m. on the same day. The live performance at 1 p.m. is nearly sold out but reserved seating is available for the encore at 6 p.m. Tickets for both events are $22 general, $20 seniors and $15 for children and students. "Don Pasquale" is an Arts & Minds presentation.

Met Music Director James Levine, conducting his first-ever performances of the opera, leads the cast in Otto Schenk's acclaimed 2006 production.  The work is a witty commentary on marriage in which Don Pasquale, an old bachelor sung by John Del Carlo, plans to marry and produce an heir to disinherit his rebellious nephew, Ernesto (Matthew Polenzani). Pasquale's doctor, Malatesta (Mariusz Kwiecien), has "arranged" the marriage in a plot to restore Ernesto's inheritance with the help of the wily Norina (sung by Anna Netrebko, in one of her signature roles), who hopes to win Ernesto for herself.
