Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University presents the NHSO Pops' Holiday Extravaganza

Heather Johnson
The holiday spirit will be in full force at the Quick Center for the Arts on the campus of Fairfield University when the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) Pops presents its popular "Holiday Extravaganza" concert under the baton of Associate Conductor Gerald Steichen on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and $40 for this Arts & Minds presentation.

The program is a blend of seasonal favorites featuring mezzo-soprano Heather Johnson and the angelic voices of the New Canaan High School Madrigal Ensemble under the direction of David Gomez. Holiday favorites such as Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" keep the performance brimming with the spirit of the season. Rounding out the NHSO holiday tradition is the long-standing audience sing-a-long.

Hailed by Opera News as "a dramatic singer in the truest sense," Johnson has received critical acclaim for her work on both the opera and concert stage. She has appeared at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, as well as with the Boston Pops Orchestra. In 2006, Johnson received New York City Opera's prestigious Stanley Tausend Award, presented to a deserving young artist in the season following their debut with the company.
