Dr. Sandra Ragan, Professor Emerita from the University of Oklahoma and co-author of "Communication as Comfort: Multiple Voices in Palliative Care," will speak at Fairfield University on Thursday, April 15, at 8 p.m. in the Kelley Theatre of the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Her talk, "Palliative Care Communication: A Discussion of Death and Dying Interactions," will draw on her nearly 30 years of research, publishing and teaching about health and interpersonal communication. Admission is free.

Dr. Michael Pagano, director of Fairfield's master's degree program in communication who teaches a Service Learning course on End-of-Life Communication, said he was pleased Dr. Ragan's visit would expand the on-campus discussion of palliative care communication. "Dr. Ragan will explore the complexities of communication at one of the critical states of the life experience-during advanced, serious illness and at the end of life," he said.

Dr. Ragan has published extensively in refereed articles and book chapters and is the co-author of the soon to be released "COMFORTing the Family: Narrative Palliative Care," by Hampton Press.

The event is sponsored by the Humanities Institute in the College of Arts and Sciences and co-sponsored by Fairfield University School of Nursing, Office of Service Learning, and Department of Communication.
