Radio Dramas celebrates Dangerous Romances at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts January 22 & 23

This production is a feature of Fairfield University's 2009-10 Arts & Minds series of events.

Director Daniel Smith's program includes, as he describes it, "Some short, campy moments from 1930s radio soap operas, back when they still sold soap and when the adventures of romance and deception were even less plausible than they are now."

In an atypical episode from "Lights Out," the notorious horror series spotlighted in the November "installment" of Radio Dramas, "Man in the Middle" is a strangely comedic show where a man's voice and his thoughts during one afternoon, become over-powering as they merge while his increasingly chaotic world of romantic deception comes crashing down.

The featured "Suspense" episode focuses on a woman who finds clues that seem to prove that her husband may have killed his previous wife for money. The woman sets out on an investigation seeking answers to her questions. In the process of her search, she finds herself in danger of becoming the next victim.

The production includes many of the Center's Radio Dramas series returning cast members including Joseph Manganello of Beacon Falls, CT, Gary Cavello of West Haven, Brianne Bresky of Easton, John Watson of New Haven, and Stratford resident, Geoffrey Gilbert. Ted Powell, master of the vivid live sound effects that accompany each program, is also from Stratford.

Smith has composed original music for "Dangerous Romances" and will play both organ and piano at each performance. Additional live music includes a string quartet.
