In response to the guilty plea of sexual abuse of a minor boy in Haiti, by Doug Perlitz '92, Fairfield University issued the following statement from the Office of the President:

As a Jesuit institution, Fairfield has a long history of dedication to service in the community and in the world; it is the foundation on which its educational programs are built. An integral component in that mission is helping the poor and underprivileged.

The circumstances surrounding the former Project Pierre Toussaint are tragic and will leave a lasting impact on these young men. We offer our prayers and we will not abandon our efforts to help those whose trust Perlitz betrayed.

Discussions initiated earlier this year with The Haiti Fund board and with the Order of Malta remain active and we are hopeful that a partnership among charitable organizations can be created so the facilities in Cap-Haitien can be reopened.
