Image: Alexel Volodin Acclaimed Russian pianist Alexei Volodin plays Beethoven and Chopin at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University on Friday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35.

Born in St. Petersburg, Volodin has gathered much critical acclaim in Europe. His international career was launched when he won First Prize at the ninth International Géza Anda Piano Competition in Zurich in 2003. Volodin's first U.S. appearance took place with much acclaim at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2008 and he continues to tour with many prestigious orchestras throughout the world.

His program at the Quick Center features Beethoven's Piano Sonatas "No. 30 in E major, Op. 109" and "No. 31 in A-flat major, Op. 110." Following an intermission, Volodin will play Frédéric Chopin's "Twenty-four Preludes, Op. 28."

In May 2005, Volodin gave his debut recital at the Champs-Elysées Theatre in Paris, where he achieved an extraordinary public and critical success, being immediately re-invited. He has performed, with great success, in Barcelona, Madrid, Lyon, Rome, Heidelberg, Baden-Baden, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, La Roque d'Anthéron, Amsterdam, Bruxelles, Luxembourg, New York, Tokyo and Toulouse.

Volodin's global performance schedule continues with several more appearances with Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra in Germany and Luxembourg. In addition, he will perform with the New York Philharmonic in New York, Vladimir Fedoseyev and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in the Vienna Konzerthaus, S. Bychkov and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Japan, Edo de Waart and the Orchestra de la Suisse Romande in Switzerland, Antoni Wit and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw and Mikhail Pletnev and the Russian National Orchestra in Cologne.
