Fairfield University to kick off Homecoming/Family Weekend with unveiling tomorrow of stag statue by sculptor J. C. Dye

What : Alumni, parents, students, faculty and staff will gather this weekend for a myriad of activities for Homecoming/Family Weekend at Fairfield University. Kicking off the weekend will be the welcoming to campus of the permanent installation of a Stag sculpture by renowned artist J. C. Dye. The Montana rancher turned sculptor, whose work is considered to be among the finest wildlife/ western art being created in the nation today, will be at the ceremony where the statue will be unveiled and blessed by Fr. Charles Allen, S.J. executive assistant to the president.

When : Friday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.

Where : The Fairfield University campus, near the Barone Campus Center and Loyola Hall.

Why : The Stag has long been the mascot and symbol of Fairfield University sports and alumni. For many years alumni have sought to have an actual representation of the Stag on campus.

How : A parade down Loyola Drive (from North Benson Road) to Gonzaga Plaza will bring the two-ton sculpture to its place of honor on the campus, led by the Fairfield University Pep Band, Cheerleaders, athletic teams and the Stag mascot. The Glee Club will perform at the ceremony.
