Evidence, A Dance Company, performs at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts November 6 | Press Releases

Image: Ronald K Brown Dance Ronald K. Brown's Evidence, A Dance Company, illuminates a sensory understanding of the human experience in the African Diaspora with a powerful and physical presence. Evidence performs Brown's unique perspectives of life through modern dance, theater and kinetic storytelling at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, Friday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. The performance is presented with participation from the New England Foundation for the Arts through a National Dance Project grant. A post-show Art to Heart Q & A with the company follows the performance. Tickets for this Dance America event are $45, $40, $35.

In recognition of Brown's acclaimed artistic achievements that provide sensory connections to history and tradition, his company was one of three chosen for the inaugural DanceMotion USA ^sm program, funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State and Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) with supplementary educational support by Pfizer. The company will make a four-week tour of Africa - South Africa, Nigeria and Senegal - in early 2010.

Alina L. Romanowski, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Professional and Cultural Exchanges at the U.S. Department of State said, "President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton have emphasized the need for the United States to use "smart power" in foreign affairs. Cultural exchanges, such as DanceMotion USA ^sm , present America in a way that is accessible to everyone and demonstrate the United States" commitment to exemplifying American culture and values as we reach out to audiences around the world."

Brown's latest creation "Two-Year Old Gentlemen," made its world premiere only last December and it is a feature of the Quick Center's program. This new all male work emphasizes the importance of community and strong male relationships across generations. Told from a personal perspective, Brown's intention is to deliver a universal message that demonstrates collective responsibility.

Inspired by the idea of stumbling through life on one's path, "Order My Steps," choreographed in 2005, draws from the instructions in 199 ^th Psalms, "Make me go in the path of they commandments for therein do I delight... With my whole heart."

"Upside Down" is an excerpt from the evening length work "Destiny," which was created in collaboration with Rokiya Kone of the Ivory Coast and her company Jeune Ballet d'Afrique Noire and premiered at Aaron Davis Hall in June 1998.
