"Church: Living Communion," the most recent book by Fairfield University Professor Paul Lakeland, Ph.D., has been described as a "brilliant account of ecclesiology," one that Rev. Michael A. Fahey, S.J., professor of Catholic Theology at Boston College said "may well come to be recognized as the first truly 21st century analysis of the Church."

Bradford Hinze, Ph. D., professor of Theology at Fordham University, said the work offers readers "what they need to know to think and talk intelligently about the identity and mission of the Church."

On Saturday, November 21 at 9:30 a.m. at Fairfield University, Dr. Lakeland, the Aloysius P. Kelley S.J. Chair in Catholic Studies, will discuss the intriguing book (Collegeville, Minnesota: Liturgical Press, 2009) at a Living Theology Workshop.

The Center for Catholic Studies-sponsored event is free and open to the public. It will take place in the DiMenna-Nyselius Library Multimedia Room 101, on the Fairfield campus.

Dr. Lakeland, who is the director of the Center for Catholic Studies, will look at ten challenges that face the Church today, and will try to update the understanding of the classical marks of the Church, that it is "one, holy, catholic and apostolic." He also will attempt to work out "some ways of thinking about the Church that start from the experience of believers rather than the abstractions of theology."
