Fairfield University's Summer Festival Chorus auditions June 9

In anticipation of the 16th annual July Summer Festival Chorus (SFC) concert, Fairfield University's SFC Director Carole Ann Maxwell, D.S.M. holds placement auditions for experienced choral singers Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Quick Center for the Arts. Dr. Maxwell asks that first-time participants be prepared to sing vocal warm-ups and exercises.

Rehearsals for this year's program, "The Times They Are A-Changin'," will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 16-July 23 from 7:30-10:00 p.m. All rehearsals are conducted in the Quick Center's Kelley Theatre, a beautiful air-conditioned hall with perfect acoustics. All participants, even returning ones, are required to complete a form that can be obtained at the website, http://www.fairfield.edu/arts/qc_sfc.html or from the SFC brochure. The completed form must be returned to the Box Office by June 2.

The SFC concert takes place on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m.  This year's repertoire includes compositions by John Knowles Paine, André Thomas and Kurt Bestor, anthems from the Sixties, music from "Hair" and selections from Howard Hanson's "Song of Democracy."

Dr. Maxwell is known and revered for her vibrant and stimulating rehearsals and special guests accompanist Beth Palmer and jazz performer and composer Joe Utterback join her. Baritone Edward Pleasant, a long-time friend and participant of SFC, will conduct three special coaching sessions - Vocal Techniques for Great Choral Singing - on how to maximize your choral singing experience while performing this year's SFC repertoire.

SFC provides the highest standards of choral training and members learn a wide variety of musical styles in a relaxed atmosphere. Members are encouraged in their passion for the choral arts and they are presented with a creative environment that inspires exploration of a rich assortment of compositions.
