The Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP) at Fairfield University offers a wide variety of summer workshops, institutes and special events designed to maximize professional development with a laser-focused approach to topics ranging from Early Childhood Education to Curriculum and Instruction.  Summer studies begin May 29 and continue through August 12.

GSEAP offers masters' degrees, certification programs, graduate credit and CEUs through one-day workshops, one-to-two-week institutes, short-term programs and special lectures. Members of GSEAP's well-respected faculty are joined by some of the nation's leading experts to address often critical and timely issues of professional interest. Participants leave with innovative tools useful for career advancement and helpful for becoming better teachers and human service professionals. These diverse programs offer inspiration, networking opportunities and a way to acquire new professional skills.

Counselor Education

• Integrating Spirituality & Religion into Counseling (CN410) with Dr. Tracey Robert, Fairfield University; Session I: Spirituality and Counseling * June 3-24, 2009 Session II: Grief and Loss Counseling)* June 2-23, 2009 (3 CEUs each or graduate credit available)

Early Childhood Education

• Guiding Children's Behavior: A Developmental Approach to Discipline in the Early Childhood Environment (ERE401) with Dr. Cheryl Shain, Housatonic Community College * July 2, 14, 15, 16, 22 & 24, 2009 Participate in field observations at urban childcare facilities and seminar discussion sessions. (3 CEUs or graduate credit available)

Rebecca New

• Special Topics in Early Childhood Education: Culture and Early Childhood Education (ER400) with Dr. Rebecca New, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Dr. Barbara Welles-Nyström, Fairfield University * August 3-7, 2009 Highlights Reggio Emilia's interpretation of schools as systems of relations as well as Scandinavian visions of child-centered programs. Participants explore the implications of culturally diverse interpretations of quality for early care and education in the U.S. (3 CEUs or graduate credit available)
• **Bonus Event** Reggio Emilia: Schools as Systems of Relations , lecture by Dr. Rebecca New * August 5, 2009 at 7:00-8:30 p.m. Dr. New, of UNC's internationally known Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, is a noted authority on Reggio Emilia. This complimentary public lecture offers an in-depth look at Reggio Emilia based on Dr. New's decades of research on Italian early care and education.

Curriculum & Instruction

• Geospatial Technologies in the Classroom:  GPS, GIS & Google Earth (MD414) with Dr. Marsha Alibrandi and Dr. Elizabeth Langran, Fairfield University * July 13-17, 2009 Develop skills and applications of geospatial technologies for curricular integration. (2 CEUs or graduate credit available)

Marriage & Family Therapy

• Cutting Edge Approaches: Mindfulness in Therapy and Education with Dr. Eric E. McCollum, Virginia Tech University * May 29, 2009 Therapists and educators will be introduced to the concept and history of mindfulness, aspects of which have Buddhist roots. (6 CEUs available)

Applied Psychology

• Performance Coaching (PR401) with Dr. Paul Maloney, Fairfield University * August 11-12, 2009 This intensive program uses case discussions, practice exercises, feedback, self-assessment and action planning to develop skills in setting expectations, coaching difficult people and more. (1 CEU or graduate credit available)
