Teresa Younger, Ex. Dir. CT Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, to speak at Fairfield University March 16 | Press Releases

Teresa Younger, Executive Director of the Connecticut General Assembly's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, will speak at Fairfield University on Monday, March 16 at 6 p.m., on "Women, Race, and the Economic Recovery." The lecture, the latest in the Black Studies lecture series, will be held in the DiMenna-Nyselius Multimedia Room. The public is invited to attend.

Prior to her appointment in 2006, Younger spent five years in a variety of roles with the American Civil Liberties Union, including as the organization’s national Director of Affiliate Organizational Development. During her tenure, she handled organizational development and management issues for over 50 affiliates across the country.

Younger earlier had served for three-and-a-half years as the executive director of the ACLU of Connecticut, where she was the first woman and the first African-American director in the organization’s more than 55 years of existence. She came to the ACLU with over 10 years of management experience in non-profit organizations, and with a reputation for progressive board development, staunch fiscal management, entrepreneurial fundraising, and innovative youth development programs.

Younger has been identified as one of the Top 40 Voices in Connecticut Under 40 by Connecticut Magazine , was a fellow with the American Leadership Forum in Hartford, and received the Connecticut NOW Prudence Crandall Award, the UAW Region 9A Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Award, and the Hartford Bar Association Liberty Bell Award. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of North Dakota.

The lecture is being sponsored by the Humanities Institute in the College of Arts & Sciences, and co-sponsored by the Dolan School of Business; the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions; The Center for Faith and Public Life; the Departments of Sociology and Anthropology, History, International Studies, Peace and Justice Studies; New Student Programs; and the Dean of Freshmen.
