Fairfield University's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies of the College of Arts & Sciences has announced its fall 2009 schedule. The diverse and exciting list of events includes a talk about Afghanistan by Khaled Hosseini, best selling author of "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns." Also planned are lectures about Jewish - Muslim dialogue, and American Jews in relation to Abraham Lincoln. All events take place on the Fairfield campus. Details are below. Thursday, October 8 - The Jacoby-Lunin Humanitarian Lecture will be delivered by Khaled Hosseini, author of "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns." He will give a talk entitled, "The Voices of Afghanistan." The lecture is presented in conjunction with the Open VISIONS Forum lecture series of University College, and is made possible by a gift from the Frank Jacoby Foundation. Regina A. Tuesday, October 13 - The annual Judaic Studies Scholar-in-Residence Lecturer will be Gary P. Zola, Ph.D., executive director of The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives, and associate professor at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Zola will deliver a lecture entitled, "He Was One of Us: American Jewry and the Idealization of Abraham Lincoln." Wednesday, December 2 - The Adolph and Ruth Schnurmacher Lecture in Judaic Studies will be delivered by Rabbi Marc Schneier, president and founder of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding. He is also the founding Rabbi of The Hampton Synagogue and The New York Synagogue.

Rabbi Schneier's topic is "Jewish Muslim Dialogue: The Interreligious Challenge of the 21st Century." The event is made possible by a gift from the Adolph and Ruth Schnurmacher Foundation. Charles F. The date of Fairfield University’s Adolph and Ruth Schnurmacher Lecture in Judaic Studies with Rabbi Marc Schneier has been changed to Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. The original date of the lecture was Monday, November 2.
