National Acrobats of China defy gravity at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts March 7

The internationally acclaimed National Acrobats of China perform astounding feats of dexterity and grace at Fairfield University's Quick Center for the Arts, Saturday, March 7 at 8:00 p.m. The event is sponsored in part by the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.

This dazzling company from the People's Republic of China travels the world captivating audiences with skills that include martial arts, traditional music, acrobatics and illusion. Their accomplishments are all the more remarkable for the use of objects of daily life, such as chairs, tables, poles, ladders, bowls, plates, bottles and jars as props.

At this performance, audiences are likely to be amazed by a no-rigging program that spotlights male acrobats tumbling and doing somersaults on each other's feet; a young woman contortionist whose body flexibility is enhanced by surrounding dancers in traditional dress; a group of five women whose artistry extends to a group dynamic as they join together to present beautiful images that depend on contortion and balancing abilities; male performers show off a mastery of ropes with tricks and feats that are unimaginable; and sixteen female acrobats perform tricks and balances on moving bicycles that won this act the Golden Clown Award at the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival.

This colorfully costumed ensemble will leave a family audience breathless with the stimulation that only a company of the highest caliber can generate.
