What: President Obama has called for Americans to maintain the energy and momentum they brought to the election campaign to transform the country. He also called for a renewal of ties between African Americans and Jewish Americans. On Thursday, Feb. 12 at Fairfield University, a talk by Trinity College History Professor Cheryl Greenberg, Ph.D., will explore how those two calls are linked together in her lecture, "Black-Jewish Relations: Why Should Americans Care?" Dr. Greenberg, the Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of History, will discuss what we can learn from examining the history of Black-Jewish relations. She’ll also delve into what worked in the past, what didn't, and why, and how activists can translate those historical lessons into useful strategies for today.

Ellen M. Umansky, Ph.D., director of the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, the event's sponsor, noted that many in the Jewish community are revisiting the issue of Jewish-African American relations in light of Obama becoming president and they do think there will be a change for the better.

Where: It will take place in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room, on the Fairfield campus.
