Fairfield University's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies has announced its 2010 winter and spring schedule of special lectures and programs. The exciting list of events includes a talk by Middle East expert Martin S. Indyk, former United States ambassador to Israel; and the Fourth Annual Lecture in Jewish-Christian Engagement.

All events are open to the public and take place on the Fairfield campus. Unless indicated, the events are free. Tuesday, February 9 - The Judaic Studies Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Ronald Kiener, professor of religion and director of the Jewish Studies Program at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. His talk is entitled, "Jewish Mysticism: From Moses to Madonna." Sponsored by the Bennett Center, the event is free and open to the public. It will take place in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room at 7:30 p.m.

Image: M Indyk Tuesday, March 2 - The Bennett Lecture in Judaic Studies will feature Martin S. Indyk, acting vice president for foreign policy at the Brookings Institution. He served as the U.S. ambassador to Israel and assistant secretary of state for Near East Affairs during the Clinton Administration. His talk is entitled, "Will There Ever Be Peace in the Middle East?" It will take place at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Tickets are required for this event and cost $25. Tuesday, March 16 - The Fourth Annual Lecture in Jewish-Christian Engagement will be delivered by Dr. Reuven Kimelman, professor of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University. His talk is entitled, "The Seduction of Eve: Why Did She Do It?" The free event, co-sponsored by the Bennett Center and Fairfield University's Center for Catholic Studies, will take place at 8 p.m. in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room.

Monday, April 12 - The 2010 Holocaust Remembrance Service is co-sponsored by the Bennett Center with Campus Ministry and KADIMA - Fairfield University's Jewish cultural organization. The free event will take from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola. The guest speaker will be Holocaust survivor Stanley L. Ronell, who was saved with his mother by being hidden in Poland and Hungary by "The Righteous among the Nations."

Tuesday, April 20 - The Judaic Studies Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Leonard Greenspoon, professor of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Creighton University. His talk is entitled, "Textually Speaking: How and Why Jews Translate the Bible." The free lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Dolan School of Business.
