New Italian filmmakers' work to be screened at Fairfield University April 20

Filmmaker and critic, Edward Bowen, will present an Italian film shorts series entitled "Italy's Young Talent: A Showcase of Short Films" on Monday, April 20 at 6 p.m., in the multimedia room of Fairfield University's DiMenna-Nyselius Library.

The series will feature a selection of short films by new Italian artists. The purpose of the showcase is to introduce these emerging young filmmakers to students in the United States. Several institutions including Middlebury College, Wake Forest University, the University of Pennsylvania and Dartmouth College have hosted this event.

Bowen holds a B.A. in history from James Madison University and two Master's degrees in history (Wake Forest) and Italian (University of Wisconsin-Madison). In addition to teaching Italian at the University of Wisconsin as a graduate student, Bowen organized the weekly Cineteca Italiana of recent feature films. His passion for Italian cinema is also evident in the 5 Italian shorts that he has directed, in addition to his current work on a book of interviews with Italian directors.

This event is sponsored by the Italian Studies program, the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures and the Core Integration Initiative of the College of Arts and Sciences. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. For more information, please contact Dr. Mary Ann Carolan, Director of the Italian Studies program, at (203) 254-4000, ext. 2134.
