Best-selling author Eric Tyson shares insights at Fairfield University

If you're wondering how to survive the financial doomsday chasing down Americans, best-selling personal finance author Eric Tyson has some good news for you. The author of Personal Finance for Dummies and five other national bestsellers comes to Fairfield University on Tuesday, Oct. 14 to discuss "The Truth About Being Your Own Financial Manager." University College at Fairfield University presents this valuable and timely seminar in recognition of National Financial Planning Week. The event, which is $20, will be held in the Barone Campus Center Oak Room at 7 p.m.

Tyson is one of the top-selling personal finance authors in the United States. More than four million people read his syndicated newspaper column, "Investor's Guide." He is known for his direct and clear approach to the complexities of finance and he emphasizes the importance of personal financial education, a necessity for choosing the right professional for an individual's needs.

The event begins at 7 p.m. with Fairfield University finance faculty leading a roundtable discussion that will focus on how to choose a financial planner who can successfully guide an individual through the retirement planning process.

Tyson's 8 p.m. lecture will elaborate on the round-table discussion and will address audience questions raised by the material discussed. The intent of the seminar is to educate the audience by instilling a firm foundational background that will inform important financial decisions. Tyson's expertise will enhance an individual's ability to determine the most helpful guide for a particular set of money matters and will offer options on types of relevant and pointed questions that will provide an advantage in today's uncertain economy.

Tyson received his bachelor's degree in economics at Yale University and an M.B.A. at the Stanford School of Business. His success has gained him praise and recognition in major publications and the media including The Wall Street Journal , the Chicago Tribune , Newsweek , CNN, "The Oprah Winfrey Show," and NBC's "Today Show." Personal Finance for Dummies was a Wall Street Journal bestseller and won the Benjamin Franklin Award for Best Business Book of the Year.
