What: Fairfield University's 2nd annual Thomas More Lecture: "Catholics and Politics in the Sixties and Today: Lessons from JFK, RFK and Eugene McCarthy," a talk delivered by Rev. Wilson "Bill" D. Miscamble, C.S.C., professor of history at the University of Notre Dame, currently on sabbatical at Yale University.

Fr. Miscamble observed, "As a recent New York Times story made clear, Catholics have been a key pivotal vote in recent elections and are likely to be so again in the upcoming presidential race. In this circumstance the role and responsibilities of Catholic politicians remain issues of great interest and importance. Should a Catholic politician's religious commitment guide his/her political stance, and if so, in what ways?"

This broad topic will be addressed in his upcoming lecture. To provide a historical perspective to the contemporary discussion, Fr. Miscamble will explore the place of religion in shaping the political outlooks of some noted Catholic politicians of the 1960s.

When: Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.

Where: The Charles F. Dolan School of Business dining room, on the Fairfield University campus.

Background: Presented by the University's Center for Faith and Public Life, the annual lecture is co-sponsored by the Golden Stags, a group of Fairfield alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago from the University.
