Training to reduce injuries to citizens and police officers at Fairfield University

Fairfield University, selected for the national 2008 Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award, has made it a practice to partner with law enforcement agencies to make advanced training available for its own officers as well as others. The Media is invited to visit this week-long program to see what those entrusted with the public safety are learning to reduce injuries to citizens and police officers.

What: L.O.C.K.U.P.® Police Combat Control and Restrain - Instructor Course. L.O.C.K.U.P.® (Law Officers Combat Kinetics, Unarmed Panoply), is a comprehensive fighting approach, based on gross motor skill concepts, that reduces injuries to citizens and police officers.

When: Monday, Nov. 10-Friday, Nov. 14, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Where: Fairfield University's John A. Barone Campus Center Oak Room

Who: Lieutenant Kevin Dillon (Ret), developed and teaches the L.O.C.K.U.P.® Police Combat System and has trained and consulted law enforcement and civilian (defensive tactics) programs throughout the United States and internationally. A 25-year veteran law enforcement officer (Wethersfield CT Police Department), SWAT team member of Capitol Region Emergency Services Team since 1993, graduate of F.B.I. National Academy, he says, "Your body dictates your physiological changes during combative engagements, your training will dictate your performance."
