The TEAM - 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival winner at the Quick Center for the Arts

"The passion and acrobatic energy of the young performers - their shifts from swinging each other about, singing, throwing eggs, joking, emoting, inviting audience participation - infuses the show with a sense of ambition." The New York Times

Team The TEAM, Fringe Festival winners - 2006 Edinburgh, Scotland and 2007 Dublin, Ireland - brings the highly-acclaimed fantastical journey, "Particularly in the Heartland," to Fairfield University and the Quick Center for the Arts' Wien Experimental Theatre for three performances, Friday, April 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m.

The TEAM, the Theatre of the Emerging American Moment, is a New York City-based devised theatre company dedicated to dissecting and celebrating the experience of living in America today. At times a rock concert, at times a sporting event, the company has been described as "avant-garde meets MTV." The work combines aggressive athleticism with delicate examinations of the social and political factors shaping our world today - keeping the brain, eyes and heart of the audience constantly stimulated.

"Particularly in the Heartland" centers on the three Kansas-born Springer children who are orphaned after what might be a tornado, an alien invasion or the Rapture, itself. They are visited by three very unusual visitors including the ghost of 1968 democratic presidential hopeful and liberal icon Robert F. Kennedy and an alien in possession of the body of a dead pregnant teenage girl.

In TimeOut New York's review of "Heartland" designating the show a Critic's Choice, Best of 2007, Helen Shaw wrote that the TEAM "... explodes into the unexpected ... Simultaneously intelligent, rueful, celebratory, delightful and devastatingly sad, the show actually lives up to its ambitions. If after Heartland we can't put the 'us' back in 'U.S.,' we'll no longer have Kansas to blame."

The play, as described in the company's literature, is "about losing sight of America and trying to fall back in love with it."
