Fairfield University President Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J., issued the following statement upon learning of the passing, on January 25, of John Klein, president and chief executive officer of People's United Financial:

I join many in the financial, corporate and civic communities throughout the region and beyond in mourning the loss of John Klein. For more than 35 years he tirelessly served People's Bank and his business acumen led to its extraordinary growth and success. More importantly, however, is that John was truly a "man for others," exemplified through his selfless devotion to causes and organizations in need. The impact of John Klein's life will be enduring on those he touched and the communities he served. Our thoughts and prayers are with John's family and friends.
