Robert Royal is St. Thomas More inaugural lecturer at Fairfield University on Feb. 11 | Press Releases

Dr. Robert Royal, president of the Faith and Reason Institute in Washington, D.C., will deliver the inaugural St. Thomas More Lecture at Fairfield University on Monday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Dolan School of Business Dining Room. A writer who lectures frequently on questions of ethics, culture, religion, and politics, and has appeared on various television and radio stations around the United States, Dr. Royal will speak on "Catholics in America: The Present Position - Rights, Responsibilities, and Challenges." Admission is free.

Part of the Center for Faith and Public Life's programming, the St. Thomas More Lecture is funded in part by the Golden Stags, a group of dedicated alumni from the class of 1952. The series will feature nationally known speakers addressing social and political issues from a traditional Catholic intellectual perspective.

Dr. Royal is a regular columnist for Crisis magazine and his articles have appeared in First Things , Catholic Historical Review , The Washington Post , National Review , The Wall Street Journal , and The American Spectator . His latest book is The God Who Did Not Fail: How Religion Built and Sustains the West , published by Encounter Books. Other books include: 1492 And All That: Political Manipulations of History (1992), Reinventing the American People: Unity and Diversity Today (1995), and The Virgin and the Dynamo: The Use and Abuse of Religion in the Environment Debate (1999, Eerdmans)

Dr. Royal holds a B.A. and M.A. from Brown University and received his doctoral degree in comparative literature from the Catholic University of America.
