One Day University returns to Fairfield University

One Day University returns to Fairfield University

On Sunday, Feb. 24, the latest One Day University comes to Fairfield University. This daylong educational opportunity is offered through University College. The event is held at the Quick Center for the Arts from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and includes lunch. The fee isĀ $219.

Another topnotch faculty takes the stage at the Quick Center on Feb. 24; one that includes Fairfield's own academic vice president, Orin Grossman. Dr. Grossman, an accomplished pianist, focuses on George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue - The Story of a Masterpiece." As a professor of music, his vast knowledge is literally at his fingertips and he takes advantage of his talent as a performer to illustrate certain musical themes in this famously American masterwork.

In addition to the field of Music, there are lectures on Psychology and Art, Earth Science: Volcanic Eruptions, Asteroids, Mass Extinctions and the Shape of Life on Earth and Political Science: America's War-Time Public Opinion From WWII to Iraq. Professors from Fairfield, Yale, Columbia and MIT share valuable insights that shed light on these potent topics.

Dr. Edna F. Wilson, dean of University College, noted the increasing popularity of the One Day University events and commented on the diverse topics included, "It is gratifying to see Fairfield University's commitment to lifelong learning shared with so many in the community. Since we introduced One Day University in early 2007, we have seen a steady increase in attendees eager to participate in such an intellectually invigorating day. One Day University offers a well-chosen balance of topics in a variety of fields and when these elements combine with excellent professors delivering fascinating information, the audience is assured of a day loaded with learning."

That day begins at 9:30 a.m. with the following schedule:
