Holocaust Remembrance at Fairfield University | Press Releases

Image: Deutsch Betty Deutsch, a Hungarian 15-year-old girl when her family was targeted for destruction for the simple reason of being Jewish, will will be the speaker for the Holocaust Remembrance Service at Fairfield University's Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola on Wednesday, April 23 at 5 p.m. The program is presented by the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center in Judaic Studies. The public is welcome.

Born Elizabeth Egri, Mrs. Deutsch would live to escape the terror of Auschwitz Birkanau but lose both parents, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins. In the years after reaching America in 1950, Mrs. Deutsch says she didn't talk much about her past, but after meeting other Holocaust survivors in 1981, she decided to share her story. Among her audiences have been high school students, many who knew little about the Holocaust, and even some who had survived their own horrors in countries like Cambodia, Iraq and Laos.
