Glee Club's annual Pops Concert with The Pops Band is all about cupid

With trees and flowers blooming profusely, Fairfield University's Glee Club director, Carole Ann Maxwell, D.S.M., appropriately chose the theme of love for the annual Pops Concert. On Wednesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m., the Fairfield University Glee Club and The Pops Band take the stage at the Quick Center for the Arts with a diverse program of music and song titled, "Love in the Air." Tickets are $10 for general admission and $6 for students.

This year's Pops Concert, blends the musical talents of an outstanding group of vibrant singers from the Glee Club with the tight musicianship of The Pops Band and, in the Choral Highlights from the Tony-winning Broadway musical, "Jersey Boys" about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, The All Seasons Dancers' fresh interpretation of this very danceable music.

The concert flows from Broadway to known and not-so-well-known ballads and upbeat songs, including Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Lennon and McCartney's "Ticket to Ride" and songs by Jimi Hendrix, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys and Eric Clapton, to name but a few.

Dr. Maxwell said of her choice of the program, "Once we decided on 'releasing your inner cupid' as the concert theme, we found that one song sparked memory of another and the list was clearly endless. It was great fun exploring the music. It became a difficult, but enjoyable task finding the rhythm of the concert through these wonderful songs."
