When the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra decided to try something new by holding its first family concert, they selected the popular symphonic fairy tale, Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf." When they needed a narrator, they didn't have to look far. They turned to Rev. Charles H. Allen, executive assistant to the president at Fairfield University who has served as the Master of Ceremonies for the annual free outdoor concert the symphony orchestra performs each summer at Fairfield University. A glowing review in the Connecticut Post that followed the Nov. 10 performance, said Father Allen "made an exceptionally fine narrator, who was a trustworthy authority, knowledgeable guide and dramatic storyteller." It continued that the performance had "surely delighted the children, from the proverbial 9 to 90," and proved what Prokofiev once said of himself and his compositions, "I love melody."
