Merle Feld, a poet, playwright, educator, and activist, will speak at Fairfield University on Monday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m., in the Presentation Room of the Kelley Center. She will be reading from and critically discussing her memoir, A Spiritual Life: Exploring the Heart and Jewish Tradition , which seamlessly and movingly interweaves poetry, autobiography and theological vision. The program is free of charge and open to the public, but reservations are requested. Please contact the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, sponsors of the event, at (203) 254-4000, ext. 2066.
In addition to its inclusion in her memoir, "We All Stood Together," Feld's signature poem about women and men at Mt. Sinai, can be found in numerous Jewish prayer books and anthologies. The revised edition of A Spiritual Life , published in August 2007, features an innovative Readers' and Writers' Guide. It has been translated into Russian and enjoys a wide audience across the former Soviet Union; a Hebrew translation of the book is forthcoming.
Feld's theatre credits include the award-winning plays, "Across the Jordan," published by Syracuse University Press in the anthology "Making a Scene," and "The Gates are Closing," performed by hundreds of congregations internationally as preparation for and enhancement of the High Holiday experience.
