"Forbidden Broadway-SVU" hits the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts

"Even if you've never been within 1000 miles of New York City,
you'll still love Forbidden Broadway!"

- Boca Raton News

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on the campus of Fairfield University presents the award-winning, savagely hilarious spoof, "Forbidden Broadway-Special Victims Unit" on Friday, Feb. 23 at 8 pm.

The show, now in its 24th year in New York, is the brainchild of the wildly inventive Gerard Alessandrini who, every year, updates his scathing homage to Broadway's biggest shows and brightest stars.

In this year's edition, the "Special Victims" include the puppets of "Avenue Q," the witches of "Wicked," Robert Goulet in "La Cage aux Folles" and "Billy Joel's Movin' Out." And with only the mere hint of nostalgia, the production sports new looks at old favorites "Little Shop of Horrors," "Les Miz," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King" and "Chicago." Rounding out the laughs are Mel Brooks' "The Producers," Abba's "Mamma Mia" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie" with lots more of Broadway's past and present.

As part of the "police lineup," Brooke Shields, Bernadette Peters, Liza Minnelli, Hugh Jackman, Harvey Fierstein and Melanie Griffith are put under the lights. And the unforgettable Broadway legends, Ethel Merman and Carol Channing even turn up in brief cameos.

"Forbidden Broadway" is the recipient of an Obie award, the Outer Critics Circle Award and the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Best Off Broadway Musical. It has a loyal national and international following. The national tour is produced by John Freedson and Harriet Yellin.
