The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to appear at the Regina A. Quick Center

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will make the first of three appearances in the 2006-2007 season at the Regina A. Quick Center on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. Journalist, Robert Sherman will lead a pre-concert Art-to-Heart discussion from 7-7:40 p.m.

Artistic Directors, Wu Han, also an accomplished pianist, and David Finckel, a member of the esteemed Emerson String Quartet, take great pride in presenting their first full season since their appointments in 2004. The program continues an exploration begun last season of works by Brahms, Kirchner, and Korngold. The focus is on Johannes Brahms, the towering Romantic-era composer whose output bridged the classical and modern musical idioms and the evening is titled, "Through Brahms: A Path From Schubert to Kirchner."

Part Two introduces a mature Brahms pushing the boundaries of his own language. It begins with "Klavierstücke," Op. 118, and Clarinet Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 120, No. 2, a work composed 30 years after the piece ending Part One. The works foreshadow the compressed intensities and tightly coiled emotions that follow on this program - a Conn. premiere of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's hyper-romantic Suite for Piano Left Hand, Two Violins, Cello, and Piano, Op.23. This musical evolution takes us to the present day with a brief work for piano left hand by CMS Season Composer Leon Kirchner, a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg and a living disciple of the Viennese tradition.

Among the artists performing in the program are violinist Ida Kavafian of New Fairfield, Conn. and clarinetist David Shifrin of Farmington, Conn. Pianists Gary Graffman and André-Michel Schub, violinist Erin Keefe and cellist Andrés Díaz join them.

Wu Han and David Finckel have approached this season with their formidable artistic and personal energies and have embraced their roles as co-artistic directors with a united vision that focuses on communities' shared musical enthusiasm. As two gifted musicians who are married to each other, they enjoy the opportunity to work together to create areas of concentration that have fed their lifelong musical passions.

Single tickets are $30. Subscribers to the series save 20 percent. Call the Quick Center Box Office at (203) 254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396 to purchase tickets. For more information, visit the website, www.quickcenter.com.
