Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts presents "Seussical" Nov. 12 and 13

"Seussical," TheatreworksUSA's musical based on Dr. Seuss's best-loved stories will play at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and, as an ArtsBound event on Monday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. Study guides for the Monday performance are available.

"Seussical" is the most ambitious touring show ever for TheatreworksUSA. Adapted from the successful Broadway version that was written by Broadway veterans Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ("Ragtime," "Once on This Island," the film "Anastasia"), this extravagant show features 12 actors in fanciful costumes performing on dynamic and imaginative sets.

The Cat in the Hat, host, emcee and all-around mischief-maker, "manages" the wildly popular Seussian characters: Horton, the good-natured elephant intent on rescuing and guarding the small frightened boy on a speck of dust; Miss Gertrude McFuzz, the one-feathered bird hoping to be noticed by Horton; JoJo, the ever-so-tiny son of the Mayor of Who-Ville, who clashes with his parents about his unlimited imagination and his "thinks" in which anything is possible; and Maysie La Bird, the lazy and conniving fowl who cajoles Horton into sitting on her egg.

Dr. Seuss's beloved classic characters find themselves intertwined in an incredible crazy-quilt adventure. Will the planet of Who survive? Will Horton pay attention to Gertrude? Will Maysie ever return for her egg? Only the power of imagination and the most miraculous "think" can save the day!

After the Broadway run in 2000-2001, lyricist Ahrens and composer Flaherty condensed their musical - both collaborated on the musical's book that they conceived of with Eric Idle of "Monty Python" - into a 60-minute version. As favorite Dr. Seuss characters come alive onstage, children from grades pre-K-4 will find delight in the show.
