University College at Fairfield University presents free seminar for "Comeback Moms" looking to reenter the workforce

University College at Fairfield University once again invites mothers who left the workforce and are seeking a path to reentry to a special seminar to its free "Comeback Moms" seminar, on Wednesday, April 26, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Alumni House on Fairfield University's campus.

Topics of the seminar, which will be lead by Edna Farace Wilson, Ed.D., dean of University College, include: how and when to make the comeback decision, overcoming family challenges, creating a support system, the essentials of networking and multi-tasking, turning home assets into workplace skills, and achieving a balance between motherhood, family and a new job.

University College held a similar seminar last year that was very well attended, Dr. Wilson said. "There is clearly a need for direction among mothers who had placed their careers on hold to raise a family and are at the point of evaluating their options for getting back into the workforce," Dr. Wilson said. "In many ways, we are seeing a new crisis for women in transition. In the 1970's women were leaving the home for the first time to complete their education or enter the work world. Today, we are seeing women in transition, seeking to return to their previous career or pursue a new one. Some want to pursue a graduate degree and others want to improve their skills set to compete in the job market of the 21st century."

University College offers 13 different certificate programs, as well as a host of credit and non-credit courses. In addition, the College provides the pre-requisite courses needed to enter Fairfield University's graduate teacher certification and other programs.

Many "comeback moms" have had great success through University College's certificate programs in Interior Design, Interior Decorating, Financial Planning, Real Estate and other fields. Oftentimes, women can set up their own businesses in these fields, while maintaining the flexibility they desire as mothers.

Dr. Wilson holds a master's in social work and a doctorate in adult education with a research concentration in counseling psychology. She has conducted doctoral and post-doctoral work in women's career development and has counseled hundreds of women facing life transitions.

Coffee and light refreshments will be served at the seminar. To reserve a spot, please call University College at (203) 254-4307. For program information e-mail gradadmis@mail.fairfield.edu or visit www.fairfield.edu or call (203) 254-4184.
