Pianist/educator Orin Grossman to lecture on Leonard Bernstein at Fairfield University

Accomplished pianist Dr. Orin Grossman, Fairfield University's academic vice president, will offer the public discussion "From Copland to Bernstein: The Creation of American Classical Music" on Wednesday, April 12, at 12:30 p.m., at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

Part of the Quick Center's ongoing Leonard Bernstein Festival, the one-hour discussion will focus on the evolution of American Classical music. Over the course of the 20th century, several American composers shattered the European mold of what music should be, and forged a distinctive American sound.

Dr. Grossman will explore the lives and music of Aaron Copland, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington, showing how their compositions led up to and influenced Bernstein's work.

Tickets to the lecture are $5. For tickets, call the Quick Center box office at (203) 254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396. For more information, visit www.quickcenter.com.
