Larri Mazon remembers Coretta Scott King

Coretta Scott King will be remembered for her grace and perseverance in promoting her husband's legacy, said Larri Mazon, director of Multicultural Relations at Fairfield University

"The loss of Coretta Scott King is a blow, but she will live on in our memory of her spirit and her dedication to social justice," said Larri Mazon, Fairfield University's director of Multicultural Relations. Ms. Scott King, the widow of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and a passionate advocate for his dream of racial justice, died on the night of January 30 at ageĀ 78.

"Coretta Scott King was a steadfast pillar of support for her husband during his lifetime and for the movement that he championed throughout her own life," Mr. Mazon said. "An activist for peace and racial justice in her own right, she offers all of us an example of the power of one person with grace and dignity to effect change in our hearts and in our society."

Larri Mazon has served as the Director of Fairfield University's Center for Multicultural Relations for 22 years. The Center recently celebrated its annual commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. with three days of events at the University, including an interfaith service, a multicultural festival and art exhibit, a convocation and an awards dinner to honor five people whose lives reflect Dr. King's vision.
