Living Theology Series considers Catholic Ethical Teaching at Fairfield University

The Living Theology series, sponsored by Fairfield University's Catholic Studies program, presents "Recent Developments in Catholic Ethical Teaching" on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Francis Hannafey, S.J., Ph.D., associate professor of Religious Studies, will lead the workshop in the School of Nursing Auditorium.

The morning workshop is the final installment of the fall Living Theology series, which will resume in the spring.

Fr. Hannafey holds a Ph.D. and an M.B.A. from Loyola University Chicago and master of sacred theology and master of divinity degrees from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. He has taught at Fairfield since 1986 and has written articles and book chapters, including works on economic and social ethics, for several publications.

In the workshop, he will address past and present understandings of Roman Catholic ethics and how these traditions are now in transition. In addition to considering ethical theory and methodology, he will address contemporary debates over the death penalty, stem cell research and end of life care.

The Living Theology Series is free and open to the public and features three Saturday sessions a semester on the Fairfield campus. The first series began last spring and attracted participants from throughout Fairfield County. The sessions are intended to help local Catholics and others learn about the latest thinking in the church and develop their own thoughts on these important topics.
