"Cam Jansen" opens Young Audience Sunday Series at Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts

"Cam Jansen," a new musical based on the popular children's books about a mystery-solving girl with a helpful photographic memory, comes to Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 1 and 3 p.m. An additional performance, part of the Quick Center's ArtsBound Schoolday Series, will take place on Monday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. and noon. The ArtsBound program is sponsored in part by the Greater Bridgeport Foundation, The Herman Goldman Foundation, and the Harry Chapin Foundation.

Suitable for children in grades 1 through 5, many of whom have probably read books in David Adler's "Cam Jansen" series, the Theatreworks/USA musical finds Jennifer "Cam" Jansen having a really bad day. She's bombed in rehearsals for her school play, dealt with classroom teasing and moped around as her dad left for yet another business trip. But a few good things are coming her way: With the help of her best friend, Eric, Cam realizes she can use her special gift to solve mysteries and does just that, turning herself from a classroom misfit into classroom queen.

In another installment, Cam and Eric team up at the local museum to solve the mystery of the stolen Emerald Elephant of Pajamastan. As she tracks down clues with Aunt Molly, a rajah and Police Officer Bob, Cam learns some valuable lessons about loyalty and friendship.

Founded in 1961, Theatreworks/USA is one of the nation's foremost professional theaters for family audiences. The company aims to create imaginative, sophisticated shows that are also educational and thought provoking. Theatreworks has performed for about 72 million people in 49 states, including its homebase in New York City.

Tickets to the Sunday performances are $12 for adults, $10 for children. Discounted packages for all six Young Audience performances are $57 for adults, $48 for children. Tickets to Monday's ArtsBound performance, which is geared to student groups, are $7. For tickets, call the Quick Center box office at (203) 254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
