Fairfield University Media Center wins Platinum BEST of Show in major film and video competition

Fairfield University's Media Center has won top honors at the Aurora 2005 Awards, an international, independent film and video competition for notable cable programming, documentaries, corporate videos and other commercial works. "The Doors," a video produced to introduce new Fairfield University President Jeffrey von Arx, S.J., to the student body, was awarded a Platinum BEST of Show award in the tributes/recognition category.

A panel of award-winning industry professionals judged entries on effectiveness, creativity and production quality. Only those scoring in the highest bracket are awarded the Platinum BEST of Show honor.

"The Doors" highlights Fr. von Arx's credentials, achievements and professional goals, while providing insights into the man, his personality and sense of humor and his passions. Coupled with interview footage of family, friends and colleagues, a door metaphor is used to mark the passages in his life. In the video, viewers "walk" through the actual doors of von Arx's elementary school, his high school, his undergraduate residence and other pivotal places where von Arx left his mark.

Media Center Writer/Producer Karen Connolly wrote and produced the video, which was directed by Steve Minnick, the Media Center's digital media/TV producer. Brian Merry, TV producer/director, provided camerawork and Digital Editor/TV Producer Jason Kapell edited the video. Students viewed "The Doors" at the president's Inaugural Ball in October 2004.
