Fairfield University School of Engineering offers a certificate in Automated Manufacturing Engineering

Image: AME Fairfield University's School of Engineering is now offering a four-course concentration in Automated Manufacturing Engineering (AME) as part of the Mechanical Engineering program. The AME concentration, which leads to a certificate, melds the disciplines of mechanical, electrical, and automation engineering to create an "efficient" manufacturing environment.

"Automation makes our lives faster, better and cheaper," said Paul Botosani, Ph.D., professor of mechanical engineering. "The future of manufacturing is in automation."

The program can accommodate community college graduates and practicing engineers.

The emphasis of the four-course program is on manufacturing support systems and automated manufacturing systems as a part of modern production systems in industry. Students use state-of-the-art hardware and software, and design the information frameworks and network protocols required for full manufacturing automation. The program courses are: Computer Aided Manufacturing I, Computer Aided Manufacturing II, Programmable Logic Control, and Hydraulic and Pneumatic Design.

At the completion of the four-courses sequence required for the certificate, students are invited to gain further depth with a course in computer integrated manufacturing. Automated Manufacturing will also be a concentration in the School of Engineering's graduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering, now under review.

For more information about the program, contact Dr. Botosani at (203) 254-4000, ext. 4147, or e-mail pbotosani@mail.fairfield.edu.
