Fairfield University hosts poetry reading of students, faculty and others

Ten poets, including five Fairfield University students accepted for publication in a national anthology, will read from their works on Thursday, April 15, at 7 p.m. in the multi-media room of the DiMenna-Nyselius Library at Fairfield University.

The evening will also feature readings from Kim Bridgford, Ph.D, professor of English, author Peter Duval, Fairfield alum Rebecca Hilliker and Hugh Abernethy and Susan Petrole, editors of Abbeywood, a journal that will publish several works from the poets. The students who will read are: Jillian Carney, Rebecca Guess, Kim Henderson, Jonathan Kugler and Crystal Patenaude.

After Henderson was accepted for publication in Abbeywood and the Texas Review last year, Bridgford encouraged several Fairfield students to submit their work. Bridgford said she was surprised the national publication accepted so many of their poems, saying it was a testament to the talent they possess.

"That's a very high rate," said Bridgford, who recently published her own volume of poems, Undone . "It's so unusual. I wouldn't want to buy a lottery ticket on those odds."

Admission to the reading is free and open to the public. For more information, call (203) 254-4000, ext. 2795.
