Shakespeare Ventures' presents "Informance"

Shakespeare Ventures, a professional theatre company on the campus of Fairfield University, will stage its "Romeo and Juliet" Informance, a presentation by student actors who have studied this summer with a team of professional artists, on Saturday, July 31, at 10 a.m. in the PepsiCo Theatre at Fairfield University. Admission is free.

The presentation comes out of a four-week intensive workshop for students age 10 to 19. With an emphasis on performance and contemporary relevance of Shakespeare's text, the students have explored "Romeo and Juliet" through physical and vocal exercises, improvisation, scene study, mask work and stage combat. Their work culminates in an Informance, in which the students will perform their favorite acting exercises, combat sequences and selected scenes.

Currently in its second year, Shakespeare Ventures plans next summer to mount a full-scale professional production of "Macbeth" on the University's campus, in addition to the four-week workshop for students.

Through both productions and educational programming, accessibility to the text is of paramount importance. In all endeavors, Shakespeare Ventures engages with a sense of exploration, thoroughly embracing the word "play" in all its connotations.
