University College at Fairfield University will host three personal enrichment seminars this spring.
The college will reprise its popular seminar "Life, Money, Values - Your Money Journey" on Saturday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will learn to break money's powerful grip on their lives and spirit, to examine their relationship with money and learn to recognize their "money messages" and the powerful effect those messages have on decision-making. Participants will analyze their own financial facts to see how they earn, share, use and spend, and then they will create an action plan for change, to align their financial lives with their values. The workshop, which will be run by author and financial planner Rosemary Williams, will include teaching sessions, group work, interactive exercises, and a money autobiography. The cost of the seminar is $99.
"Women are a powerful force in the marketplace. Their responsible and intentional financial action in their spending, saving and giving makes a big difference in their own lives and the world we all live in," said Williams, a Fairfield resident and author of "A Woman's Book of Money & Spiritual Vision." A former banker, Williams is director of Women's Perspective, a nonprofit organization (www.womensperspective.org).
"Images of Women Throughout Christianity," which runs on Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., will kick off on April 7 and run through May 5. The course, which costs $149, will examine the different images and roles women have been placed into within Western cultures: from the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene to the modern housewife. Different mediums, such as film, fiction and essays, will be used to better understand what it means to be a female in the Christian tradition.
The course will be taught by Gale Bellas, Ph.D., who teaches composition and literature at Fairfield University. Dr. Bellas has had several stories and short essays published in a variety of magazines and journals.
"Living in the Moment," is the topic of the final seminar in the personal enrichment series and will be held on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from April 27 through May 12. The cost is $99. Bernice Marie-Daly, Ph.D., an adjunct professor at Fairfield University, will encourage participants to awaken to a deeper consciousness by focusing on "the now." The class seeks to gradually remove inner obstacles, freeing the mind and opening the heart to experience more contentment, pleasure and personal fulfillment. During the three-part seminar, participants will learn to recognize some of those unconscious blocks and begin to embrace greater self-awareness and inner peace. Dr. Marie-Daly has worked in the area of psycho-spiritual growth for more than two decades. She is the founder of Awakenings: The New School for Women's Spirituality, and maintains a private practice at The Psychotherapy Center in Fairfield.
