Senior Research Associate with the World Policy Institute to speak at Fairfield University on war profiteering in Iraq | Press Releases

Frida Berrigan, a senior research associate with the Arms Trade Resource Center of the World Policy Institute, will deliver "Merchants of Death," a lecture on behalf of the War Resistors League on the topic of war profiteering in Iraq on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in Fairfield University's Barone Campus Center Oak Room. Her lecture is free and open to the public.

A graduate of Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass., Berrigan worked with a Central America solidarity organization for two years before joining the World Policy Institute. Maintaining an interest in U.S. foreign policy toward Latin America, Berrigan also focuses on nuclear weapons policy; weapons sales to areas of conflict, particularly in Southeast Asia; and military training programs. Most recently she has published articles in the Providence Journal, the Nonviolent Activist and the Hartford Courant.

Berrigan is speaking on behalf of the War Resistors League, which "has assembled a bureau of qualified experts to speak about companies that profit - and profiteer - from war and occupation." The "Stop the Merchants of Death" tour of speaking engagements will begin in the Northeastern United States and continue nationwide, according to the League.

Berrigan's lecture is being sponsored by Campus Ministry, the Center for Multicultural Relations, the Fairfield University Student Association, the History Department, the International Studies program, the Patrick J. Waide, Jr. Fund, Peace and Justice Studies, the Philosophy Department, the Politics Department, and Religious Studies.
